Data Curation and Climate Risk Database (CRD) Data Management

Cities in Tanzania and across the Global South increasingly depend on reliable, well-described geospatial data to plan for floods, climate change and rapid urban growth. Data is only useful when it is curated: cleaned, described, licensed, quality-checked and published so that others can find, trust and reuse it. This course teaches the principles and the practical skills of data curation, and how to apply them in the Resilience Academy Climate Risk Database (CRD), the open geospatial data platform for Tanzania’s cities.
Participants learn what data curation is and why it matters, the FAIR principles, metadata and licensing, and then practise the full workflow: preparing a dataset in QGIS, authoring metadata, publishing it to the CRD (GeoNode), managing permissions and styling, and maintaining data quality over time. The course is grounded in the real CRD platform and the Resilience Academy way of working: locally driven, low-complexity, open by default.
